This brand new project will work with young people aged between 16 and 30.

With local unemployment rates in Pilton at 8.4% compared with the rest of Edinburgh at 3.9%, the young people involved in this unique community project are amongst the 5% most deprived in Scotland.

Transforming Communities

We will work with two groups of fifteen young people, empowering them to set up and run their own co-operative business. They will learn about the history of the co-operative movement and how it has transformed the lives of millions of people across the world and gain a greater understanding of marketing, finance and develop employability skills including customer service and sales. They will also gain the support of a mentor to help them during the project.

Get involved - a fantastic opportunity

Through our free weekly programme taking place at Pilton Youth and Children’s Centre you will:

  • Gain a deep understanding of co-operative values and practices
  • Set up your own “co-operative” taking action to tackle any problems you collectively identify in your local community
  • Work with a mentor from a local co-operative who will help you with your business idea.
  • Boost your confidence and develop new skills that will improve your employability chances.
  • Achieve an ASDAN Award in enterprise.

Join us and make your business dreams come true. The project will then officially start on the 29th April 2019 and run until February 2020, with weekly sessions held at Pilton Youth and Children’s Project Centre, The Greenhouse, 33 West Pilton Brae, Edinburgh, EH4 4BH.
